Plymouth Satellites aren’t the sort of thing you see around very often, but this is the second one I’ve seen recently. I love the front end treatment on these. Such iconic proportions here.

Is this a real Hellcat? It sounded amazing, not epic, so I’m not quite sure. What confuses me is that I don’t think that is a stock color.
B R O W N. All of it. Yes, you heard me, all of the B R O W N.
I don’t know what’s going on with the giant wing on this already rare Pontiac G6 coupe, but I don’t like it. Why is it so chonky?
And then later, in the pouring rain, I noticed the terrible hood scoops. It’s like they wanted a GTO but thought the hood was enough to convince them to settle for a G6.
An oddly modified commercial vehicle. I have never seen a standard box truck modified in this way before. Usually these have an open utility bed and don’t cut the cab in half.
The car scene in Atlanta isn’t the most varied I’ve ever seen. Lots of muscle cars blasting down the streets with loud exhausts. There’s a massive bike culture here, but I don’t know the first thing about bikes. Sure, there was that Fiat, but it is just a prop, sadly.

So, Oppo, which car would you drive home? I’d definitely take that Plymouth.

I’ll take the
oddly modified commercial vehicle thank you

The satellite is cool i n brown but those wheels and the chrome trim makes me sad.

I like my Satellites more like this one I saw:
Except in brown. Yes, the color suits it well but I didn’t think the wheels were that bad. Especially given what people do to classics these days. Seent recently:

The least suspicious way yet to steal cable. Ingenious, except then you’d have cable.

That is G6 GXP. Stock scoops and wing.

That’s a nice one. I like my satellites in GTX dress.
But then again, I’m awfully fond of this one, known it all my life.

Oh, I just looked it up and. . . well now. That is probably one of the worst factory bodykits I’ve ever seen. And it was an auto. Eeeeew. Why did that exist? It had no chance in the sport compact market and it couldn’t draw the muscle crowd like the GTO. Ugh. In fact, why did the G6 coupe exist at all?

They can’t all be GTXs, but the world would be more interesting if they were. I’m not convinced about the vinyl roof on that one.
Also, is that some weird sort of two tone its got going on on the roof?

When people are calling for Pontiac to come back because of the G8, they forget the G5 and G6 and the Aztec and the Montana...

I genuinely forgot that the G6 existed at all, much less that they made a coupe version. They were such a mixed bag at the end. On one hand, I think they had one of the best looking takes on some of the GM twins. On the other hand, some of their other cars were so oddly proportioned that they squandered the more handsome kidney grille front end.
The brand I really wished survived was Saturn but as they were originally envisioned. They would have made a great candidate for mainstream eletrification, especially if GM hasn’t axed the EV-1.

The G6 GXP bodykit was to homolgate it for IMSA racing, IIRC.

Eh... I never cared about Saturn. There is nothing about Saturn that GM can’t replicate with any of the remaining brands.
Saturns were around the time GM made really crappy engines and interiors imo. I did like them when they started importing Opels though.

They also had a hardtop convertible G6.
I agree about Saturn. They had built up such a good thing and a loyal fan base, then let it either on the vine, then murdered it.

They were different and not boring for a while. I think a Saturn with a bespoke electric platform could have changed the game. Too bad.
Now, I don’t know what GM is doing with electric cars. They don’t know how to market them at all, so they just don’t.
Also, wait, they had a hardtop convertible G6? Well I'll be darned.

Saab was the real loss. And somehow it is Hummer that is coming back. GM sometimes man. . .
The best GM cars have always been Opel. The Cruze for instance. And the Regal/Regal TourX.
I like Opels a lot.

Wait, so that has actual performance upgrades? I thought it was just some tasteless modification. Just how rare are they? I can't ever recall seeing one. Also, they're ugly and their wing in the street cars is stupid.

I’ll take the Hellcat plz. I’m not a big car or a sedan guy, but if I had to get one, I think a current Charger would be it, even a non-Hellcat. I really like the styling :)
Then again....I’d be happy with a bright orange Dart Rallye from a few years ago :P

IIRC, the GXP trim gave buyers the most powerful engine options (240hp to 252hp for the GXP vs >225 hp on lesser trims), but I’m not sure about suspension or handling.

Agreed.
Yeah, I can't imagine they held up very well.

The current Charger is a great all around vehicle and very popular here in Atlanta. It’s a fast, practical, and fun car that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to get a V8.
The Dart was so underrated. I didn’t mind the exterior styling and the inside was pretty good for the era. Not sure how it stands on driving dynamics, but it’s not too hard to find a Rallye with a stick.

I had no idea that was a thing. I’m actually impressed it isn’t just an appearance package.

I could have gone my whole life and never known this existed. And probably very few still exist now.
![]() 08/23/2020 at 13:23 |

Yeah, I know the Dart wasn’t GREAT, but it wasn’t as bad as people make it out to be. A friend of the family has one with the larger 2.4L engine and a 6-speed manual and he quite likes it and hasn’t had one thing go wrong.

I imagine they're quite rare now. And all leaky.

And it was styled quite nice. Not sure about FCA build quality but they seem to be sticking around at least.
